Kawana MP Jarrod Bleijie has congratulated the Sunshine Coast Falcons on kicking a major goal with the securing of NRL affiliation.

“It’s great to see the Melbourne Storm continue its tradition of recruiting Queenslanders to its ranks, this time through our very own Sunshine Coast Falcons,” Mr Bleijie said.

“This is an incredible coup for our region, a brilliant reflection on our local club and a major progression for rugby league locally.

“This affiliation will offer the Coast’s brightest young talent a fast-lane to the NRL, and it represents a huge vote of confidence in our club’s management committee and players.

“As the Member for Kawana – the home of the Falcons and Sunshine Coast Stadium – I am immensely proud of our club’s achievement.

“I have every confidence the Melbourne Storm connection will spark a winning streak for the Falcons, bolstered by last weekend’s victory over Redcliffe,” Mr Bleijie said.

“The former Sea Eagles’ affiliation with Manly propelled the local club to the top of the scoreboard to win the 2009 state league grand final and I wish the Falcons similar success.

“Today’s official naming of the SC Falcons NRL Feeder Club will cement the Sunshine Coast as a magnet for Australia’s brightest young NRL stars, offering a prized pathway to the Melbourne Storm.

“I have every confidence this will make our region a training ground for future State of Origin greats and draw NRL veterans to the Coast.

“My hearty congratulations to Sunshine Coast Falcons Chairman Ashley Robinson, CEO Chris Flannery, Club Captain Ryan Hansen and their teams on today’s news.”
